LAS VEGAS — Day one in Las Vegas for the Utah Jazz was an eventful one.
There was spirited basketball. There were smiles. There was a ton of team bonding. There was a tutorial from head coach Quin Snyder on how to make a perfect smoothie from spinach and kale. And there was competition during a long session of practice. And there was an owner on the floor who had, you know, been there before.
In the space below, we try to break down that first day of camp and what some of it means. Some of it was innocuous. Some of it has the potential for far-reaching implications. Either way, here are the sights, and musings from Las Vegas.
Hitting the ground running, but not literally
The Jazz are a veteran team, with a veteran core, with a veteran coach, with newcomers who are veterans. This is a unique training camp for an NBA team in this regard. Usually, the first few days are spent implementing sets and new plays as well as inserting guys into spots in the rotation. That’s not going to be Utah’s biggest issue this week in Las Vegas.
